The little town Arco-iris is to be found in Abrigada, in the municipal area of Alenquer. It began in 1997 and is appreciated by Church and by civil authorities who recognize its possible public benefits. The Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon, present at the little town’s inauguration, said his hope was that it should be ‘a fixed point of unity, in communion, to demonstrate that unity among all is possible.’
Mariapolis Gloria, with its hundred citizens has more than 40 buildings that blend in well with the natural surroundings. The Mariapolis was begun in the early 1970s as a training centre for the growing community of the Focolare Movement in that region. The generosity of many people not only made it possible to begin the work but provided even more than enough for unforeseen developments. One couple donated a large piece of land, several families settled on the property, and the permanent Mariapolis was begun.
Loppiano is a little town of the Focolare Movement. It was founded by Chiara Lubich in 1964.
Ecumenical Focolare Little Town
The inculturation of the Gospel in the African societies, above all in Fontem, in the heart of the Cameroon forest, where the concrete witness of love by the focolarini doctors efforts called to take care of the Bangwa people, suffering from many diseases and severe infant mortality, meant that this people, and several other neighboring peoples have walked into the path of faith and fraternity. It is also seen in other two citadels that arise to Kenya and the Ivory Coast.
